My NUMC Family:

 

I have spent the last week sitting and praying and Thanking God for each of you.  October 13, 2010 will be a day that lives with me for a very long time.  It is a day in which roughly 25 youth ministers from 16 different denominations came together to bring to Jackson the City Wide Event this year.  WE hosted that event due to the nature of Hope Hall and that we were the right place to hold this type of event.  This concert was a Rap Concert featuring Lacrae and the 116 Clique kicking off their Unashamed Tour 2010.  We had expected to have close to 1200 students and young adults here which is about our capacity for Hope Hall and because of some extraneous communication by their record label we had well over 2000 students, college students, and leaders show up for that evening.  To make a long story short Lacrae and his crew agreed to do a second concert and in the mix of what could have been a true disaster, God moved in a mighty way in hearts and amongst the people and those that chose were blessed by a good evening.  NUMC was the right church at the right time!  We were flexible and our volunteers were absolutely amazing!  I have been filled with stories about how our church volunteers were wonderful and loving in the face of adversity that evening.  I know every single detail of that night didn’t go perfectly and it sure didn’t go the way we planned or dreamed it would but in a true testament, “we were the right church for this event”.  I have been told that quote many times during that evening and since!  

 

Thanks to each and every person that prayed for us before that evening, during and since.  To those that came and gave of your time!  THANK YOU!  I stood on stage and was deeply moved by watching 1200 plus students worshipping and praising and celebrating a God that was presented to them in a way that they understood.  That is huge and in my time around Jackson I have not seen that happen in the last decade with that many teens and young adults.  It was very moving and exciting.  Your willingness to respond to the call was the reason many were given an opportunity.  I have found in youth ministry and ministry to young adults that sometimes it isn’t about exactly what we are doing but that we are providing an opportunity for a response.  THANK YOU AGAIN!!

 

I want to also take a moment to Thank our normal week in and out Volunteers:  Sunday School Teachers, Velocity Leaders, Drop Zone (small group leaders), Meal Providers, Prayer Warriors, Coaches, Trip Chaperones, Parents, Discovery Volunteers, Pool Providers, Financial Partners, Musical Helpers, Student Ministry Team, Scouting Leaders, Bible Study Teachers, Mentors, Drivers, and every other person that is a part of the body that makes this part a special place to be!  Y’all are true Champions of Christ to our Young People!

 

This year our Student Ministries has been one of incredible growth and change.  I have watched our group grow spiritually in ways that I cannot describe.  We have undergone face changes as people come and go for various reasons but we have been touched by each life.  From College Bible Studies with our older students to recent Graduates to those inquisitive energetic Confirmands we have a huge diverse group of young people that are struggling to grow as disciples and we are striving and running hard to keep up with them all and to walk with them or run when necessary through the challenges of life.  We have a good Student Ministry that touches people on a local, regional, national and international level and that is rare in these days.  We have been blessed here at NUMC with youth and they are really the leaders of this very day!  Thanks for all you do to make sure they stay on the front lines in this church and in this community!  Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to hang on for the ride as well.  It is a blessing to help shepherd this flock through it all.

 

Again, Thanks NUMC for providing for us all in so many ways!  We are blessed to have each of you as family!
